Changing the world by changing diapers
Vermont Diaper Company Happenings… August 2009
Happy Late Summer!
Hard to believe that some of the oldest, wisest maple trees in our town are already starting to edge their leaves in orange and red… The crabapple in the backyard is prolifically loaded with glowing orbs of fruit. There are mountains of potatoes to harvest in our garden and somehow the calendar creeps toward the start of our daughter’s second grade year! Second grade?
The Summer sun has finally found the Northeast and we are bathed in golden light from a cerulean sky. The feeling of gratitude for such a simple pleasure is very humbling.
This is our second Summer with our three wheeled wonder, a 100% electric ZapCar with the Vermont Diaper Company logo emblazoned on the sides. We have had many people hit the brakes and learn out their car windows to snap a picture of this site on their cell phones and drive off giggling like crazy. Our daughter calls this teeny tiny car “The Diaper” because it looks so much like on of our fitted diapers! It fits my husband, myself, our daughter and an armload of veggies or bag of groceries. Just about all we ever need.

Happy Deep Winter!
Here in Vermont for many of our days and nights our thermometer has revealed temperatures well below zero. Thirty one degrees below zero just last night. Our two wood pellet stoves are working hard to keep up. It is the coldest Winter we can remember in our eleven years here. Even the old timers admit it’s been a good looong while since the cold like this has set in to stay.
The Fedco seed catalog has arrived and it will be a dog-eared copy within the coming weeks. In Vermont, we know to pace ourselves come the end of January. February and March are a long haul. And we don’t call it Spring until May 1st .
The warm and bright spot in our Winter has been the wave of hope, action, and joyful optimism as our country heads united in a new direction. Together, we engage in creating something of strength, power, and beauty.
Thank you for supporting our small, family owned and operated adventure!
In Peace and Gratitude,

Happy Summer!
Here in Vermont our garden is loaded with every good thing. If it is a veggie you can name, we are growing it! In the early evening we walk through an enormous meadow on the trail to our garden patch, watching red winged blackbird males fiercely defending their nests in the tall, fragrant grasses. Last weekend, we watched a mama snapping turtle plodding through our potato patch to lay her beautiful, smooth, round eggs in the warm soil. (We will let you know when they hatch!)
Summer in the Green Mountains means gardening, watching the water of the North Branch of the cold Winooski River flow over multicolored stone, and soaking in the sun we have waited all long, dark Winter to enjoy ….We do all of this (and much more) alongside our work as Vermont Diaper Company. We are a small family business, slowly growing and reaching out to those families who want to participate in a sustainable and strong future by choosing our Vermont made, organic cloth diapers.
This Spring we had a chance to table at the Saratoga Environmental Expo in New York state. And wow did we get some funny and incredulous looks! “Cloth diapers? They still MAKE those?” Yes, we do. And folks use them and wash them and hang them in the sun and with every washing and drying families across our country make a difference.
In peace,
